Strobe Talbott

Strobe Talbott a été Visiting Fellow à l’Institut Montaigne d’avril à mai 2018. Durant cette période, il a notamment apporté son expertise sur la politique étrangère.  

Strobe Talbott est un fellow in residence du programme de politique étrangère de la Brookings Institution. Il a été président de la Brookings Institution de juillet 2002 à octobre 2017.

Avant de rejoindre la Brookings, Strobe Talbott était directeur fondateur du Yale Center for the Study of Globalization. Il a également travaillé au département d'État de 1993 à 2001, d'abord comme ambassadeur itinérant et conseiller spécial du secrétaire d'État pour les nouveaux États indépendants de l'ex-Union soviétique, puis comme secrétaire d'État adjoint pendant sept ans.

Strobe Talbott est entré au service du gouvernement après 21 ans au magazine Time. En tant que journaliste, il a couvert l'Europe de l'Est, le Département d'État et la Maison-Blanche, puis a été chef du bureau de Washington, rédacteur en chef et chroniqueur des affaires étrangères. Il a reçu à deux reprises le prix Edward Weintal pour ses reportages diplomatiques.

En décembre 2011, Strobe Talbott a été nommé par la secrétaire d'État Hillary Clinton à la présidence du Foreign Affairs Policy Board du département d'État des États-Unis, poste qu'il a occupé pendant le mandat du secrétaire d'État Kerry. 

Il est diplômé des universités de Yale et d’Oxford.

Il a notamment écrit les ouvrages suivants : “Fast Forward, Ethics and Politics in the Age of Global Warming” (avec William Antholis), “The Great Experiment: The Story of Ancient Empires, Modern States, and the Quest for a Global Nation”, “Engaging India: Diplomacy, Democracy and the Bomb”, “The Russia Hand”, “At the Highest Levels” (avec Michael Beschloss), “The Master of the Game”, “Reagan and Gorbachev” (avec  Michael  Mandelbaum), “Reagan  and  the  Russians”  et “Endgame”.

Il a aussi récemment écrit pour Politico (“Trump Just Blew Up the G7. Now What?”, 09/06/2018), The New York Times (“Stalin, Hitler and the Temptations of Totalitarianism”, 18/10/2017), The Atlantic (“What Putin is up to”, 02/03/2017), The New York Review of Books (“The Many who Lost an Empire”, 21/12/2017), entre autres.
