Institut Montaigne is partnering with the Hertie Foundation and the Polish Robert Schuman Foundation, with support from the European Academy Berlin, to launch a new fellowship program for future decision-makers from the countries in the Weimar Triangle.

The Weimar Fellowship brings together politically engaged mid-career leaders with roles in the economic sector, politics and public administration or civil society who want to actively shape the political future of their countries and Europe.

The program offers a dedicated space for strategic exchange, trilateral cooperation and joint action, complemented by inspiring encounters with leading policymakers, academics and practitioners.

This inaugural edition focuses on the theme "Europe in a More Volatile World – Trust, Cooperation, and New Initiatives in the Weimar Triangle." Spanning one year, the program will consist in three in-person modules held between September 2026 and July 2027 in Berlin, Warsaw and Paris, to explore this theme in greater depth:

  • Building Trust and Foundations for Cooperation (Berlin, 23-26 September 2026)
  • Navigating Cooperation under Pressure (Warsaw, 3-6 March 2027)
  • Sustaining Capacity for Joint Action (Paris, 7-10 July 2027)

Besides analyzing common European challenges, the programme primarily focuses on translating ideas into concrete initiatives in order to achieve a lasting impact.

Project-based collaboration in transnational teams will therefore be a key element, with fellows contributing their own ideas, experiences and networks and working together to develop viable project approaches that can continue beyond the Fellowship year.

The aim of the Fellowship is to establish and consolidate networks in civil society and professional contexts, made up of future decision-makers, without them necessarily already being part of Franco-German or European networks.

You can find further information about the programme in the call for applications [PDF]. They must be submitted by April 30, 2026, latest, via the following application form. We also heavily encourage you to review our FAQs before applying.
