Green Deal: A Paradigm Shift for Our Economic Model?

The European Union is at a turning point regarding its Green Deal and post-crisis recovery. The Fit for 55 package and plans to reform 50 European legislative acts by the end of 2022 raise some important questions. How can the previous path of economic development in the EU be significantly changed to enable a climate-neutral European economy by 2050 without fracturing our societies? As the time has come to implement the ambitious objectives of the Green Deal, what are the perspectives for the legislative package mid-July and the general prospects of success in the next months at European and global level? What potential areas of cooperation and conflict are there between Member States on these issues? Are we noticing a fundamental paradigm shift in our economic model, or are there still significant obstacles to overcome? What role can France and Germany play in meeting these challenges?

Following our series of articles published jointly with the Genshagen Foundation, "Green Deal Reloaded – Perspectives for a Sustainable and Just Transformation of the EU", Institut Montaigne and the Genshagen Foundation will co-host an online event on June 17 from 10:00 am - 11:00 am CET.

On this occasion, we will welcome Pascal Canfin, Chair of the European Parliament’s Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety.

Discussions will be introduced by Laurent Bigorgne, Director of Institut Montaigne, and Martin Koopmann, Director of Genshagen Foundation, and moderated by Florence Schulz, Tagesspiegel Background Energie und Klima.
