Eva Thorne

Political Scientist at the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change

Dr Eva Thorne works on university partnerships, policy and tech in the developing world for the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change.

She has focused on the digital divide in developing countries, Africa and the 4th industrial revolution, digitalisation strategies for inclusive economic growth, and innovative partnerships. This takes place alongside her work on Covid- 19, with specific attention to vaccines and therapeutics.

Prior to this, Eva was Director of Policy and Research for Tony Blair Associates - Government Advisory ("TBA - GA"), a public sector consulting firm. In this role she led a high-performing team that provided strategic policy advice to line ministers and heads of government on a range of issues. 

Prior to joining TBA - GA, Eva served as a strategic advisor to Liberia’s National Oil Company (NOCAL), working through the Africa Governance Initiative.  While in Liberia, she worked with the centre of government (President, senior government ministers, and Chair, Board and CEO of NOCAL) on reform of the petroleum sector including: working on the country’s new petroleum legal framework; liaising with international development partners around technical assistance to the sector; national and international stakeholder consultations; and reforming NOCAL.

She taught at Brandeis University, Boston University, Northeastern University, and Tufts University, all in the US.  Eva holds  a doctorate in political science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and an undergraduate degree in history from Harvard University, both in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
