Wiestler President of the Helmholtz Association After a five-year period as senior resident and Assistant Professor in Neuropathology at the University of Zurich, Switzerland, Otmar D. Wiestler moved to the University of Bonn in 1992, where he was appointed as Professor of Neuropathology and Head of the Department of Neuropathology. In Bonn, he established a major neuroscience research center. In January 2004 he joined the Deutsches Krebsforschungszentrum (German Cancer Research Center, DKFZ) in Heidelberg as Chairman and Scientific Member of the Management Board. Since September 2015, he serves as President of the Helmholtz Association, Germany's largest research organization. Otmar D. Wiestler has been active in many scientific and professional boards. Since 2001 he is an elected member of the German Life Science Academy LEOPOLDINA.
