Bruno Palier

Research Director of the CNRS at Sciences Po

Bruno Palier is Research Director of the CNRS at Sciences Po at the Centre for European Studies and Comparative Politics. His studies focus on social welfare reforms in France and Europe. Formerly, he was director of the Interdisciplinary Laboratory for Public Policy Evaluation at Sciences Po (LIEPP) between 2014 and 2020.

He graduated from the ENS in philosophy, then switched to political science, and undertook a master's degree, a DEA, and then a thesis in political science at Sciences Po Paris. After working as an ATER at the Sorbonne, and conducting post-doctoral research as a Jean Monnet Fellow at the European University Institute in Florence, he joined the CNRS in 1999 and later the CEVIPOF as well as the Centre for European Studies at Sciences Po.

He was Visiting Professor at the University of Tokyo in 2000, Visiting Scholar at the Center for European Studies at Harvard University in 2001, Visiting Professor at the University of Montreal in 2003, Visiting Scholar at Northwestern University in the spring of 2007, and Guest Professor at Stockholm University in the spring of 2009 and 2010. From 2006 to 2011, he worked as scientific coordinator of the European Network of Excellence RECWOWE (involving 29 research institutions, 190 researchers, 19 European countries).

In 2021, Bruno Palier published Réformer les retraites (Presses de Sciences Po), and in 2022 Les femmes, les jeunes et les enfants d'abord, investissement social et économie de la qualité (Women, youth and children first, social investment and quality economy) together with Clément Carbonnier.
